Twins obtain Joe Crede

The Minnesota Twins have seriously bolstered their batting order and their already solid infield defense by signing free agent 3B Joe Crede to a one-year contract.  This gives the Twins a gold-glove quality defender at all four infield positions (five including catcher), without sacrificing the 90 to 100 rbi’s expected from the platoon duo of Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher.  The last time Crede was healthy, he won the silver bat for 3B with 30 HR and 93 rbi.

The reason Crede, formerly with the Chicago White Sox, was available is because he only played 144 games total for the Pale Hose in the last two seasons and required back surgery after each of those seasons.  If his back does not hold up this year, the Twins will be able to return to platooning Buscher and Harris.

This acquisition makes the Minnesota Twins one of the teams to beat in the American League Central division.  If they don’t win the division, they should still be well into the hunt for the wild card and a chance at the post-season.  Yeee-haw!
